Silk production in Asia can be dated back to ancient times, though it is during feudal times that silk became associated with fashion. It was considered an extravagant luxury and associated with wealth and success, at the time only worn by Kings, Queens, and mandarins.
Today Silk is still a considered a luxurious fabric though access is no longer limited to a few, and no wonder….
Silk has a smooth, soft texture that is not slippery, unlike many synthetic fibers, yet silk is one of the strongest natural fibers.
Silk's absorbency makes it comfortable to wear in warm weather and while active, yet it’s low conductivity keeps warm air close to the skin during cold weather.
At O-Thala we use silk in many of our styles for the above reasons, but of cause also because silk simply makes for beautiful clothing.....
